Anyone have luck welding a cracked y pipe?
A friend of mine just had his y pipe crack on his '05 road king. Anyone have any long term luck with welding that pipe?

Get a small piece of pipe that will just slip inside the head pipe (muffler shops, auto parts store). Slide it in to where the crack is. If it intersects the "Y", slide it back out and drill a series of 1/8" holes in the piece forming a larger hole that will align with the other header pipe feeding into it. Nip out the piece, align it in the header. Turn the heat up on the welder enough to get it to fuse all the way through to the adapter/support piece you just made.
Fixed mine that way 15 years ago.....still stronger than stock.

Might wanna think about putting a WTB listing on Craigslist. A lot of folks have those things hanging in their garage when they went to True duals...I couldn't get rid of my stock pipes.

Tig weld pipes all the time with one of those under $400 inverter 220v dc units . Take's a little playing around with some scrap to find the settings but the welds turn out great and haven't any go bad yet .Trick with these things is get your stuff CLEAN and start low and go up on your settings , you'll get the feel quick if you've any welding skills to start with and use stainless filler rod .

Yes, mine cracked and I took it to a local welding shop. It cost me $10 and that was six years ago...he must have done a good job because its working great.

Mine was broken when I bought it. Cleaned it a little and mig welded it because I didn't know any better. 19,000 miles and 2 years still hanging in there, saddle bag brackets, not so much.
