Just a note to thank all the folks here for their help! I'm proud to say I accomplished something today that may be no big deal to many here, but I feel like I just climbed Mt. Everest. I replaced my rear tire on my 2010 fatboy! Even a good friend had his doubts when I told him how I was going to go about it..... he was even more doubtful when I told him I was going to use my truck and a 2X4 to "break" the tire! For someone with nearly no mechanical background, I'm proud of that. Just learned from all the experiences you guys passed on here in the forum...thank you. Oh and after a test spin, everything seems in order!....love that ME880!

 

BTW, the hardest part of the whole thing is just getting the rear wheel off and on the bike....taking old tire off and putting new one on the rim took only minutes!

Good for you. Is a great feeling to take on a task and pull it off. Plus, ya saved a few bucks.

 

You should be proud. You did something that probably 99% of the people on here would be scared to death to try without a tire changing machine, so it's a very big deal. I've changed several by hand and I can appreciate the frustration involved.

FWIW, I used a couple of 2x4's and a large C-clamp as a bead breaker, but the name of the game is whatever works. Like the old saying goes, "at some point every tool gets used as a hammer".

Great job btw. Nice feeling when you saved money and did it yourself. Now put that money saved towards something you've always wanted.

 

You lay the wheel down on it's side and can back/pull the car/truck up on the tire to break it loose from the rim.

 

Then I guess it's a two man job then. You'll need a "spotter". My luck I would just run over the damn wheel.
