Default killed a dog with the dyna....

well 6:30 am this morning i fired up the fxdx and backed it out of the shed, headed to work and less than 2 miles from the house at 55 on a two lane road i see two dogs running across the road about 60 yds in front of me. I down shift to third and apply the brakes, because they clearly have time to cross by the time i get there. once slowed to about 20, i see one of them doubles back. i made an evasive right swoop clear over to the shoulder line, then it doubles back again. Now going about 8-10 mph I swoop HARD to the left and took it to the other shoulder line, (oncoming traffic lane) then thats when it happend, i prepared for a certain wreck, in my mind i was going down no doubt about it. then thump thump i looked back and it was doing the death flop in the road, i felt soooooooo bad, i knew who's dog it was. (my dads friends)soooo. i get to work and call him, he says he's glad im ok, asks if anything on the bike was broken, and offers to pay for damages, i say NO NO NO NO NO their are no damages and i was sorry for hitting his dog...., i still feel bad, im a dog guy.

Glad your ok, could have been much worse. Bad deal for the dog, but stuff happens.

An animal lover here as well, but.
I would only take evasive measures if I could do so without endangering myself or my bike.
I would not put myself in danger of wrecking in an attempt to avoid someones pet.

Many folks wreck attempting to avoid small animals when the smart thing to do would have been to hit them straight on.

I wrecked a car dodging a dog. I will not wreck a bike if I can help it. In my MSF course they taught us how to hit dogs and live through it.

I love animals and the dog at my feet but the dog made its choice. Bad choice but a choice. If you didn't hit it someone else would have.
