i just rode through Sturgis, South Dakota for that matter with 16" apes and no problems, but they was not pushed forward and my hands was at shoulder hight. They do not like your hands above your shoulders.

of course this was not during the rally, I imagine they scrutinize bikes much more during rally week.

If you go into wyoming during the rally to go to the devils tower watch out. There is a sign at the border telling you the legal height and I've seen a cop pulling guys over.

I'd think it's much less, since that's the town's big income source for the year and they have a lot more to worry about during the rally.

I've never had an issue. There are a lot of people riding with way higher than 16s around as well.

It's an "add-on", if they pull you for something else, they tack the bar height on the ticket as well.

Around downtown, make sure you come to a complete stop at the signs. That seems to be the favorite ticket during bike week. They will have cops stand at all 4 corners of an intersection at times.

Yeah, it says "must be below shoulder height" or something to that effect. It's relative to the rider, not the bike, which makes sense. But that's Wyoming, not SD which may have a different law.

I have a bunch of friends who have been there with apes. They were even pulled over for some random bs violation but handlebar height was never mentioned. Basically the cop was checking to see if they were under the influence.

Yeah, that. I don't have apes but a few of my buddies do. Been hassled a lot in Wyoming during the rally.
