Yeah...it sure sounds like a great time...NOT! Been riding near 40 years and never been to Sturgis OR Daytona. I won't go ( and spend my money) were I'm not welcome. I've always believed if they could get your money but keep you out they would be happiest!

...or you can go and avoid downtown. When I ride the Black Hills, for some reason I see the scenery and don't notice the crowds/drunks/idiots that everybody complains about. But then, I don't hang out at the mega-bar complexes, either. If I want a cool one, I know a couple of biker bars out there.

But to stay on topic...If you think you might want to lower your bars quickly, I wouldn't recommend having them loose enough to jerk down a few inches unless you're absolutely certain you will never have to push your bike.

I watched the Sturgis Cops chase a guy down and gave him a ticket for having apes where his hands were over his shoulder 300 bucks, they give out tickets for everything and don't look the other way, don't even think about a rolling stop

I used to go to Sturgis twice a year - late April/early May and late Sept/early Oct. No tourists, no bikes, NO COPS. Perfect time to check out the scenery.
We take the cage and drive down one day for the rally. Walk through, see what's new from the vendors, then run over to Rapid and walk around the HD shop. Cops don't look twice at us.
