Personally I would like to have somebody tell me why it is so important to have a law about why the apes have to be shoulder high. I have 16" apes with 4" risers and I don't have any control problems. My hands are slightly above my shoulders but I don't have any issues of any kind. I would imagine that the law was made by somebody that has never riden a bike with apes on it, they probably just don't care for the looks or something.

The results of three different stops in Wyoming:

One year: A warning.

Another year: He had to rock his apes back to lower the overall height right then and there or he'd get a ticket.

Yet another year: equipment violation ticket.

Like I said before, these were guys I was riding with. (I've got drags myself) Don't stop in Newcastle, Wy if you can avoid it.

Every year it seems to be hit and miss. Just depends on the interaction between LEO n Rider. The real extreme apes get the attention. 16 seems to be the set up between bike and its rider and could go either way.

I lived in Wyoming for almost 20 years and attended the rally many times. For years, I was about 20", including my risers. I'm 6'1" and I was right at shoulder height when riding normal and a little bit below when I sat up straight (of which I would do in the presence of any LEOs). I never got pulled over.

I've never had a problem there with apes (had'em as high as 18"), but a nice burnout cost me about $400 several years ago out there.
