If you can stand a bivy, you dont need a tent. One less thing to pack and set up. Not for everyone though.

I use a Wiggys ultra lite that compresses down to the size of an oil can....

Also agree on these bags. Lived in one for 7 months all over Bosnia. Went through most of their winter spring and a hair of summer in it. On a previous deployment there we used the older WWII style down sleeping bags. I spent Christmas '95 sleeping in one of the older bags in Croatia w/ no heat source, coldest I have ever been, but survived easily. Those down bags would be way too hot in warmer temps. The modulate are great due to the variety of temps they are good for.
