Also not "flaming" on you, just telling you the truth that obviously you didn't know, figured that was something anybody would know.

Well it sounds like your town is smaller than mine. I can't remember how big size wise it is in sq miles, but I know lat time I looks it was 17,000 people. I thought the local cops here were bad when anything happens every cop goes just so they have something to do. But I've never heard of any of them looking through trash or anything like that during an event like that.
For the LEO's sides, I would say they were told by the Chief of Police to do that. If you were a LEO I highly doubt you would want to go through trash taking pics unless you were told to. I would feel like I'm wasting my time in that situation, it's not like it would be trash outside of a suspect in a case. The ones with their hand on their firearm and holster unsnapped were either new or they've never been in a real confrontation. They're the worst ones to get in a little tussle with since most will have an itchy trigger finger (on either their firearm or mace, or both). Now about the one Sheriff's Deputy I don't know, maybe he was told to do that also.
Lastly, I respect cops except for the ******* ones that think they're the **** and better just because they have a badge. Doesn't help with some of their egos getting bigger when they have women all over them, trust me cops are about the same way as military men (just not as much as military men) in that women automatically want them (except for the women that hate cops). You'd be surprised at how many LEOs lose their job over a woman or 2.

The main subject in this thread all I can say is over the years riding be it small or LA size towns you never know which the locals PD is going to swing . I've every possible way they can play from a Barney Fife who personally escorted me to me to the city limits so I wouldn't stop to being pulled over just so the 2 cops could check out the bike and talk shop both where riders and one was building a bike . I',ve been pulled over had photo's taken and was made to remove my shirt so they could find my gang tattoos of which I have zero , seen cops hiding in bushes taking pictures , poking through trash , ect .
While the general population riding has changed and gone to being middle class church goer's for the most part all their play acting hardcore by going off the deep end with the " image " thing has kept the official perceptions stuck in the 60's and the 70's . What I find really disturbing is I'm seeing a growing trend with cities trying to curb larger gatherings of any kind by bikes anyway they can , it's just gotten to big anymore I think and of course we're a prime source of revenue .

Don't remember sayin I was ok with any of it. So what was I supposed to do, jump him, beat him down and take his camera away? Given them an excuse to escalate? That's what they want. It would have justified everything they were doing. As it was we all just laughed at them and they left with nothing but some wasted time and some photos of bikes. As stupid as their actions were they did nothing outside their or our rights.
