Did a search with no luck on how to cure this. New clutch cable as I installed apes on my ride, clutch lever is very jerky when I press and let go slowly. Do I need to lube the cable? I put lube on hand lever with no luck, didn't want to put anything down the cable without knowing if this would help or not. Any advice?

Check with the manufacturer of the cable to see if it's needs to be lubed or not. Some do, some don't. You also may need to grease the fitting at the hand lever end. I'd be willing to bet $5 to a donut that the problem you have is a sharp bend in the cable somewhere. Double check your cable routing to see if there are any bad bends.
