15K service done myself.

Plugs look like they're runnin' a tad hot--should be more of a brown color. Are you race tuned? Might wanna think about that. Makes a dramatic difference in response, torque, power, and running temp. Clutch is easy; you adjust it halfway down the cable by the front downtube.

My biggest concern in adjusting the clutch was that I couldn't find a clear explanation as to what that adjustment does. The service manual says to back it out 1/2 to 1 full turn. In the DVD it say the same and says it's "critical to how the cluck lever grabs". How does it work? The farther you turn the adjustment screw out causes which, the clutch to grab sooner or later? Thanks

I love the fact that you need 34oz for the primary! Only 15 more changes and you'll use up that partial jug!!

the plugs look good, don't throw them out. if they were working ok i wouldn't have changed them. i 'm still running the oem plug wires in my 85 and don't have plans to change them. my shovelhead has a plug wire from a 1962 diamond reo gas powered tractor that works just fine, no plans on changing that out either. derby and inspection gaskets can be reused multiple times. i only change mine if they start to leak. i changed 1 derby o-ring in the 26 years i have owned my 85. i'm cheep, you can do whatever you want to do.

I'm no mechanic, either, but just recently did 20K on my FLSTN. Spread the list of tasks over a couple of weeks, did them as I had time and tools. With the service and parts manuals in hand, and videos on YouTube, it's pretty straightforward.

No, the fork oil is due at 20K and I want to do chrome forks, so it's a winter project, as funds allow. Looks like something that will take a while to get just right though. I'd rather tackle it when I have plenty of time
