Dunlop D402 touring or D401 elite?
Which is a better tire, the 402 touring or the 401 elite. Im thinking about putting a 150/80 16 on my softail (a lil bigger tire). I now have a mt9016. I run wide white walls. Looking for the best deal on a tire. I do my own installation. Thanks!

I put new tires on this year and for the first time I went with the Metzeler ME 880 's. love 'em.

The 401 Elite goes with the 402 Front right from the factory on FLST ( I think!)
The 402 is a harder, probably longer lasting tire which should offer slightly less tractin because of the harder compound.
There are better tires available IMO.

Kinda depends on what your needs are. The 401 is softer and will provide better grip but will wear quicker. The 402 is the opposite. Have you considered the elite 3? Generally, a better all-round tire for touring.

I agree with Stiggy. There are better tires than the HD Dunlops. My preference are Avon Venoms.

I have D402's on the front and back of my 99 Softail Custom, and I like them real well. They handle great, and wear very well. I have 5,000 miles on them, and they still look like new.

+1 for the Metzlers. Went through three sets of Dunnies and just switched to the ME880s this week.
The difference is greater than you can imagine. Bike is smoother, more comfortable, better handling, more "flickable," etc....

From what I gather the K591's and the elite 3"s are not available in wide white walls. I have a good 402 on the front with probably 10k miles left on it. I have heard if I put a metzler or avon or something on it with the dunlop on the front, it will handle funny. Ive been getting pretty good mileage i think out of the dunlops just wanna stay with white walls and maybe something a lil wider, like a touring tire. My friend put a 401 150/80/16 on his softail and its a lil wider and he says it handles alot better than the mt/90/16. In JP cycles a d402 www MT9016 is $155, a d401 www 150/80/16 is $223. Im wondering why there is such a $ difference? I really dont understand about the sizing codes mt/90/16 and MU85 140-16. Maybe someone can explain. Thanks!!!
