Default OEM Accessory quality?

First-time Harley owner here. Have had it a few months and decided I was ready to start adding on. My first purchase was the 4 point docking kit, standard height sissy bar and a back pad. When I bought this at the dealer it was all in the shipping boxes and I didn't open it at the store (my bad). When I got it home and opened the sissy bar box, I found that one of the 4 welds had not been cleaned. There is welding splatter all over the plate and they just chromed right over it. Looks like complete crap. How that got past QA is a mystery to me. For $179 I was kind of suprised. So now I get to make the 40 mile round trip to the dealer to swap it out.
My questions is, is this the exception or the rule with OEM Harley parts?

Good to hear. It must have just been bad luck. Since this was my very first Harley parts purchase, it just sent up some red flags.

Harley parts are usually good quality.
Drop by the dog house downtown lexington and ask the same questions you see on here. You'll be amazed at the difference in responses.

I've never had a problem with OEM accessories, I think it might've just been bad luck for you.

Never hurts to open the box at the dealership though to verify in the future, most times when I'm making my purchase, the guys at the parts counter will open the box infront of me to make sure everything is in there before sending me home with it.

Better luck in the future man

Everything I have bought from HD when it comes to chrome has been top notch. The only rust I fight on any chrome is my highway bars which are not HD.

I agree with the above posters, prices are a little high, but the quality has always made up for it. Although I never buy where I can't get 20% off list.

I concur. But since it's all made in China now, I can often find the same quality items on Ebay for a lot less.

Just got back from the dealer. Gave me a new one that looked perfect. No hassles. Must have just been bad luck.
