Note on the steel wool. I don't care how fine it is, use it often enough and it will dull the chrome. Been there. My preferred method and I do need it often due to my riding pants hitting the heat shield from time to time when I have to back up, is Easy Off Oven Cleaner as mentioned earlier. I like the pipe warm, not hot. I fold a cotton shop towel in quarter and spray the cleaner heavily on the cloth. Place it over the mark for a few seconds and wipe. If it's real heavy, I let it lay there for awhile and come back to it. Don't try to spray the pipe, it's way to hard to control the spray.

Ignore that guy using a razor blade. I believed that once and still have a couple of scratches to remind me.

Your dealer has a product called HD Boot Mark Remover. Just follow the directions and it works like a hose.

I just go for a ride to get the pipes hot. Get a thicker rag and get it good and dripping wet and just wipe it fast across the pipes, viola! crap is gone. Be careful the steam may hurt and do not let the rag sit in any one spot for too long.

Default magic eraser

I just used the magic eraser trick on cold pipes. Works great. Wet the eraser and rub a little and the marks gone.

Use the edge of a quarter lightly. I swear it works with no scratches!

I got mine hot and scraped it off with a penny based on a tip from someone.

Here is someone else doing a demo.
