NPR had an excellent piece on the Patriot Guard riders this morning. Listen to it here:

I have thought about doing this when my son comes home next year.
Only thing is I am not sure that I could ride without tears streaming down my face................

Being a member of the Patriot Guard in Arizona, I can tell you from experience that there is not a dry eye on any motorcycle when it is time to honor our "brothers".
Go ahead and set up the "Welcome home" for your son. It will be one of the finest moments in your life.

Honoring our heros is probably the most meaningful one thing I have ever done. Words can not express it![]

He tells no lies on my first ride I had them streaming down my face and I'm thinking Glad I got Glass's on so I look around and there isn't a dry eye anywhere

I went on my first ride last Sunday. I have to say, It was quite the experience. As much as I loved the cause.. i'm not sure if I can grieve that much. I came home that night and was saddened by the overall experience of the day. My heart goes out to all involved and to the PGR for what they do for support. I would love to experience a Home coming. That should be a happy experience. I hope I dont sound selfish by saying the above. The PGR mission was my very first funeral ever. Maybe that was why I took it so damn heart wrenching. I still hurt when I think about the funeral. I don't know if I can do it often. I'd love nothing more than to continue contributing my support. Perhaps some advice from those that go often?

While the reason for the missions are sad ones, there are not words for the feelings that you experience.
If you have been thinking about joining got on the next mission ride in your area. You will not regret it.
To see the mixture of individuals coming together to honor a fallen soldier is really something else and when the family comes by and thanks you, it is all worth it that the family knows that he has not been forgotten and there are still American citizens that do care for what their sons and daughters are doing for us.
