I see mid 40s normally, but recently got 49mpg on a ride in the mountains, and am on my way to a 50mpg tank at the moment.

Update: We took the Mascot to Packwood , Wa. on saturday, so thought I'd check it. 156.4 miles, used 2.823 gallons = 55.40 mpg. I ain't gonna complain.

47 and 48 mpg the last 2 tanks. A mix of some backroad and a lot of highway where I tend to run at 80+mph, don't like being in the slow lane.

When you hear such exaggerated and fantastic (and meaningless) claims such as 62 mpg, it's just BS, and easy to understand how they came by that figure--they just didn't fill it all the way! You can't obtain accurate fuel consumption figures by burning a couple gallons of fuel. You must average it over a number of tankfuls. I keep a log of all fill-ups, and have averaged 45 mpg over the past 5,000 miles.

If I drive at a reasonable speed, 80 t0 100 km/hr (50 to 60 mph), I can get 500km on a tank of gas, 22 liters.

I worked it out in american units and comes to 55mpg.

If I goose it, speed, jack rabbit starts it's as low as 400km/tank == 44 mpg

I always fill my tank completely when I get gas. I always keep a mileage history, and I always divide the mileage by the number of gallons to fill my tank. This gives me my MPG and I've cross-checked it numerous times.

New I averaged around 40.
After the cams and a good tune at 16k she's right at 43 average, thats 95% 2up and mostly putting in the country in 3rd and 4th between 30-45MPH..

Best ever 47 on 8hr ride upstate.

Anytime I get 48 mpg or more I usually have a leaking intake gasket .If you have an 88 and you're getting 50 mpg or more you may want to check your intake gaskets . It's an easy check you can do yourself with some WD 40.

When on multi-state road trips I notice significant differences in MPG's as I travel and fuel blends must be the reason. Here at home I average 40 mpg here in So Cal in the mountains where I live. I have long uphill grades I have to deal with regularly to get to/from work each day.

Now on road trips in other states I've gotten successive tanks at 50 and 51 mpg's despite the previous day being in the mid-40's for example. Nothing changed, same bike, same gear and loaded the same, riding at the same speed, same freeway conditions, etc.

The fuel blends must be the cause of such radical differences in MPG's. And in winter I get 2 LESS mpg's than I do in summer. Every winter I've noticed this, so it's a definite difference in summer vs winter fuel blends here where I live.
