Default First 10 miles on the Metzeler ME 880..

All i can say is, WOW !!!! what a freekin difference, it almost feels like riding on air. I know puttin new feets on a cager makes a big difference, but i didn't think it would make that big of a difference on the fatty. Its so much smoother, quieter and seems to actually roll easier. I told the mrs if there wasn't so much tread left on the frt i would replace that one also.

The original dunlop made it 8700 miles. I've never cared for dunlops on cagers and i'll never put another one on my fatty. I didn't realize how chopped the tire was until it was off the rim. I knew the frt one was chopping and and i thought all the noise in turns was coming from the frt.. not so, it was the rear.

Yeah I am almost due for a new set so I am probably going with the Metzeler instead of the dunlops. I got 14k from my original set in California. Moved to Florida and have logged about k and they are looking pretty bad. Lots of sand paper on the roads here. Keep us informed.

yeah, i'm curious as to how it will hold up. we have grippy roads here due to the amount of snow we get. I guess after a 1k miles i will be able to tell.

I didn't get my ride new, bought it used with 3k on it and from what i can remember it was already starting to chop out. I'm glad i was able to get the miles out of it i did.

I made my decision on the metzeler from all the reviews and comments i've read here.

to add : i got it through Denniskirk, they had the best price, the fastest and cheapest shipping $5. I should have bought it at JP when i saw it in their flyer for $149.00..

Keep you pressure up....higher, way higher than Dunlops. I never had them but everybody says to run high pressure it wears the tire better...

Here are the Metzeler tire pressure recommendations for the 880's. They're up there as tires go.

http://www.us.metzelermoto.com/web/p...s/default.page

I am on my second set of Tourances on the V-Strom and they were so much better than the Birdgestones I decided to get them for the Roadster. Also pleased, although haven't ridden much in the rain with them.

Stock HD on left, ME880 on right.

thanks for the chart. i put 40 in it to start.. i'm not so sure now.. there seems to be conflicting info on that page..

mine is a 200-55-17, its not listed, but there is a few close..

ME880
Solo 2Up Light 2 Up Heavy
Front 38-40 40-42 40-42
Rear 44-46 46-48 48-50

For bikes with the following rear tire sizes: 170/80-15, 180/70-15, 150/80-16, 160/80-16, 180/60R16, 180/70R16, 200/60R16, 240/50R16, 140/80-17, 160/70-17 D spec, 170/60R17, 210/50R17, 150/70-18, 180/55ZR18, 200/50R18, 210/40R18, 260/40R18, 280/35R18, 300/35R18, 260/35R21.

then they have this..

Sport/Touring

140/70-200/50 36-38, 38-40, 40-42

Dual Purpose (750cc & up )

Solo 2 Up Light 2 Up Heavy
Front 31-33 33-35 35-42
Rear 35-37 37-39 39-42

Use the ME880 pressures.

The dual-purpose they are talking about is the Tourance and the like. Dual purpose bikes often travel on soft surfaces so the pressures are lower. Most guys run closer to 34F 40R and then air them down to as low as 20-25 when they hit the soft stuff.

I put the Mettz's on after 12K on my original Dumbflops. I now have over 8K on the Mettz's and they look like they will go another 6-8 easy. I am running Dynabeads in them and Yes, I too felt the difference in the ride after the change. They are great tires IMO.
