Default Warming up the twin cam...

How long does it take or how do you do it. I live in a warm climate,so I let it run for a minute or two and ride off easily. I also have efi. I don't hit it hard for at least 5 minutes if not more. Is this necessary?

I start the bike and let it run while I get my helmet and gloves on, then back down the drive and turn around, usually the heads are getting warm by then.

I don't worry about it too much. EFI is real easy to live with. I generally only let it idle for 3-4 minutes while I get ready, regardless of the air temp. My carbed Evo was a little more finickey. When it was cold - like in the 30's - it would start on the first touch of the button. But you had to let it warm up a bit before riding off, or it wasn't very smooth.

Start it and ride it. I go easy on the throttle for the first 15-20 minutes during warm-up (just don't rod it). Leaving the bike idle for any amount of time accomplishes nothing but wasting gas.

Carbed here , I let it warm up a minimum 3/4 min and then go easy for the next few minutes on the road .

I don't like/want leaky gaskets .

I let it idle untill the rocker box is warm. Not hot, just warm. At that point the oil should be warm enough to flow easily.

Cold or warm out I go about 30 seconds usually...it's the length of time it takes me to back out of my garage roll down the drive and out into the street then I wait a few seconds longer before I click it into 1st and go. I'm easy on the throttle for the first mile or two then after that...it's game on!

Since efi I'm letting it warm while I get the last few things together, back out and go. Sure is better than carb on my Heritage.

Carb here, pull the choke (I'm sorry, enrichener) out a few notches to let it idle normally, put on my helmet, gloves, etc. and then ride it away. Once it's moving the "enrichener" isn't needed any more.
