Cold or warm out I go about 30 seconds usually...it's the length of time it takes me to back out of my garage roll down the drive and out into the street then I wait a few seconds longer before I click it into 1st and go. I'm easy on the throttle for the first mile or two then after that...it's game on!
[sm=exactly.gif] what he said.

2007 Softail owners manual says:30 seconds, that's how long I let it run before heading out. After the I take it really easy for 2 or 3 miles. The most noticable thing to me is that it shifts smoother when fully warmed up.

Let it warm up until the 3 top fins on the right side rear head are warm and you are ready to ride................

I usually let it idle a few minutes and check to see if the back cylinder is getting warm to the touch. Then i would take off slow for a few blocks then I would run it as normal .Should be good to go by then.

Carb'd Evo here. I usually fire it up, set the idle up a bit, then put on jacket, gloves, helmet, etc...then take it easy for a few miles.

I have had a problem getting the air/fuel mix right, though. It starts easily, but runs rough at low speed, low rpm's. When I get up to 1500 rpm or better, runs great, no missing, or sputtering.

A mechanic friend said I might change the jet from the .072 to a.068. He thinks it may be running too rich with larger jet. It's a S&S Super E.
Any ideas?

You ar EFI, dont worry too much, just idle for 2 minutes tops.

Mine,

'99 Evo carb.

Fire up full choke pulled, let it idle like so for 15 seconds.

Then push it half way in and I take my time to dress up.

Saddle up and take off, I push the rest in as I ride up hill to hit main avenue.

------------

Then slowly push in and then gently pull out, push in, pull... No, no sorry!!! wrong procedure that is for other stuff

Regards.

I let it idle untill the rocker box is warm. Not hot, just warm. At that point the oil should be warm enough to flow easily.
Thats what I do .Seems to take about 3-4 min.

I am on my 6th bike and I have always started the engine and drove it immediately. The places where I lived and worked were usually a few miles from the main highways, so I assumed the engines were up to operating temps before I really got on it.
Never have had an engine failure.
