Default "Free" Synthetic Fluids

Took her in for the prepaid 1k mile service. Write up guy told me I could get syn for $30 extra. I figured WTF and said go ahead. Picked it up and he said he was able to get it for me for no extra charge. Yeah I know, but still I thought it was decent.

My dealer did both of my 1k services for free with syn3. Included with the bike. They do this to be sure people have it done because it is one of the most important service intervals.

don't mean to hi-jack your thread but has anyone ever heard of any adverse effects on going from synthetic back to dino oil? friend of mine had it done to his bike at a local dealer..they told him it was their mistake but would correct it on the next oil change.

I used to do my own oil changes, etc. and used synthetics. Last major maintenance - 30K - I had dealer do, they put dino back in it. I haven't noticed anything bad about it. It does seem to run a little hotter but that could be my imagination.

Syn oil and mineral oil can even be mixed together without any problem. Just as long as they are the same API rating.

The motor is dumb as it does not know what kind or brand of oil is in it.

I've always had them throw in the first service for free when buying a bike.
