Lots of police still use constant on K band, especially small towns. If you have a good enough detector to pick up instant on Ka band from a few miles away that helps if there's other traffic. If there is no one on the road but you, then you're a sitting duck but if you understood instant on radar you wouldn't have been speeding anyway. I use an Escort Redline and it will pick up instant on Ka from 4 miles away, as a matter of fact it is so good that sometimes i have caught myself thinking the cop was somewhere else and then met him 2 miles later. The Redline will pick up laser if the cop is shooting laser at the vehicles in front of you. It's done that several times from half a mile away. So the old "if laser goes off you already got a ticket" is not true with the Redline. We're talking $400+ for a good detector here. A cheap one is worse than not having one at all.
Lot of truth here. Some detectors are very good. Valentine pretty much sets the bench mark for Radar detectors. It will even tell you if RADAR is in front or behind you.

I used to use (and swear by) radar detectors but the members that were shooting the beam got a lot smarter and they started catching me (over and over again) It finally sunk in and I slowed down. Now it's all about the ride and not about how fast.
Here in the US the FCC says you can not jam RADAR, but LASER is overseen by the FDA and there is no law against jamming it, although some states like Pelosi's Mexifonia do not allow it.

100% accurate information. I know my detector and know how radar works. Still have to use common sense. I trust it completely. Borrowed it to a friend and he got tagged twice in the same day.

How about a 'Radar Roy endorsed' laser jammer, like this:

Don’t trust them and take it on the chin when you get a ticket.

I'd rather have a "speed" detector. Something that detects the speed zone I'm in and beeps when I'm going 5 or more over the limit. I rarely speed on purpose but it's easy to drift into the danger zone without being aware of it.

Most states have laws requiring city/county cops to 'give' you 10 mph before writing a speeding ticket, except in school/work zones where they have to 'give' 5 mph.

State cops can write one for 1 mph over, but 99.9% of the time go by the 10 mph rule.

Now, after reading the above, why do you need a radar detector? Why speed at all?

I use a detector in my cars/trucks but only with the brain engaged also. Mostly stay 5-7 MPH over the posted limit and use the detector to remind me to watch my speed cause somebody is watching up ahead. I used a GPS most of the time also, and run GPS speed with is usually 3-4 MPH faster than car Speedo. On my truck, GPS is just about dead on with the speedometer.
I have used Escort detectors for years and believe they are some of the best. In my younger days, they saved my tail more than once, but I have been nailed since I was going so fast I could not slow down below the limit before it locked. You got to stay very alert and be watching the road ahead closely if you are gonna run hard, and still you are taking a chance of those surprizes. You cannot turn them on, stick them on the dash, drive 20 MPH over and day dream while you drive. You need to really pay attention to the road ahead (and behind) and changing conditions (blind corners, places smokys can hid). You got to have your game on if you expect the detector to help you, and even then, that instant on may get you anyway. They pick up only when radar or laser is transmitted...at your or hopefully at somebody else.

On the bike, I currently do not run one, although I think it would be nice. The issues of trying to keep it dry, trying to keep it from getting stolen while you get gas or stop to eat, always have to stow all that stuff for just a minute in the store, and, usually not it that big of a hurry anyway on the bike.
