When I was a cop, I hated traffic enforcement. There were 2 ways I'd make a traffic stop for a moving violation - either I thought the stop would lead to a DUI arrest or some other, more serious offense, OR the person broke the law right in front of me, as if saying "hey cop, F### You!" - (a) you can't ignore that in front of a bunch of people and (b) you wouldn't want to anyhow.

Try to look at if from the Judges point of view, does the citation sound reasonable?
Was a law actually broken? Did the officer follow proper procedure?

If the answer is yes to any of those you might have a hard time getting it dropped.
I am not a LEO or a Lawyer but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!
LOL thanks for the laugh, that was great!

And I should be able to take the defensive driving course and get it removed all together, but I'm not sure.

See, he knows. The old "right turn" bait - I'll bet he signalled first, just to throw you off balance. Probably took a bribe to set you up for "the man."
I figured someone like you would throw in their opinion. Whether you believe it or not there are cops out there who do these things. Who said anything about the academy? I'm not at all implying all LEOs are ********, but this one was. And you weren't there so you don't know how it happened.

Truth is, could I have slammed on the brakes and waited for him to turn? Probably, but with my girl friend on the back did I really wanna take the chance of locking up the rear and or front? No, in my mind that was way more dangerous than simply switching lanes and carrying on my way.

Oh and happy Memorial Day Brenn and thanks for your service!

If you had to slam on your brakes to avoid him making a right hand turn you were either speeding or not paying attention. Stop trying to make excuses and take responsibility for your actions. You broke the law, you were caught (because you were stupid enough to do it right in front of a cop) now pay up.

23 years on the job here and I say, go to court and explain to the Judge what happened. Be respectful and polite and the Judge might give you a break. It's not like you did anything horrible.

Whether you get off or not depends on the particular Judge. Around here, we'd call that a chicken **** ticket. That doesn't mean you're innocent. It just means the Judge might think so too.

You have a right to have the ticket reviewed by the Judge. Why not try it out? At least you'll learn what kind of Judges you have in your area and who you should vote for next time.

You sound like a reasonable guy. You might have a chance. If you were on here posting how you got screwed, my advice would be the opposite. Judges normally don't like that too much.

If you decide to challenge it in court maybe the LEO won't show up and I think it gets thrown out doesn't it?

You've played that side of the fence so we both know there are guys with a badge that like to play the game with power and control and that's what it's really all about not a nuisance ticket . Those types come in every walk of life and they always gravitate to middle management or some kind of public service like the PD or somewhere they can lord over the general public .

One question that I have you said it was a local cop and he was approximately 4 miles outside of town as you stated. Now was he a city cop or a sheriff? Around here if it was a city cop then he has no jurisdiction outside the city limits if it was a sheriff then he has jurisdiction throughout the county and State troopers have it throughout the state. Just wondering if possible he was outside his jurisdiction. May be something to look at.

See if you can talk with the DA or ADA about it sometimes they will reduce the charge or give you a prayer for judgement which is like a suspended charge if you don't do anything for a year or so then it goes away and doesn't go against you. Again that is used in my area.

Entrapment? A set up? How do you figure that? He was turning, doesn't matter how slow it was, you went around him on the left and that's illegal. Old folks turn slow to...is that a set up?
Maybe he had something on the seat he didn't want to spill or maybe break.
I doubt he waited all day to slow down and turn in front of you so he could write you a ticket.
Guilty. Pay up.
Ride Safe
