Default windshield tint and height

I am about to add a Memphis shades Batwing fairing to my FLSTCI and not sure about windshield hight and tint. I have not seen a live and in person Memphis Shades "Solar" any good discriptions of this around I searched and didn't find anything of use. So I am leaning towards the black gradent shield in 7" or 9" size I am 5'6". All reviews on Dennis Kirk's online catalog says the 7" didn't work for them. Any comments about Solar, or this post please add it. I am looking for help before I press order now.

At your height I would think you need a 7". You need to be able to see over the top of ther windshield not through it. I have the Memphis shade fairing on mine with a 9" gradient black windshield and I am 5'8".

I'm 5'10" and I've got a 7" Solar for my Street Glide which will be similar to the set up you are describing. solar is easy to see through but has a good tint too. at night the black is a bitch to look down and through...

Thanks Guys I just can not find any information on the Solar but leaning towards it. I need the windshield more for the bugs down here in Louisiana just prior to night fall. Coming home from work they are a killer. Living in the country doesn't always have it's advantages. Been riding for 34 years and always looked through the shield not over it. I just clean it after every ride to keep the bug juice from setting up getting hard and then scratching it as I polish/clean the shield.

Make sure you are able to see OVER it. I got one for my Fatboy and was told you need to look through it. Not so. I rode it for a couple of months and got a replacement screen that I can look over. Much better.

The correct way is to be looking "over" the windshield . The trick is knowing how much . When you sit on your bike in the riding position you should be looking just about 2 inches over the top of the windshield . What this does is lets you see clearly while at the same time causing the wind deflection to flow up "over" your head so you don't get the bugs and dirt or dust in the face . Your height doesn't always work to gage this as some "like myself" are long in the torso and so I sit higher in the saddle than some other people my height . Likewise I'm sure some people might be shorter then average in the torso .
