Motorcycle catches fire during refueling: http://www.heraldtribune.com/article...ICLE/910119995

It can happen. If you're sitting on in when it does, you're gonna have a bad day....

are you saying that the oil companies dont deserve to be able to have record profits on price gouging?

Straddling your bike while refueling is simply a very foolish thing to do and, even if one has no sense of self-preservation, needlessly endangers others.

Easy enough. Voting with your wallet can be very powerful if the word gets out. Think what would happen if EVERYBODY quit buying gas from say....Mobil. They would drop their prices and the competition would be FORCED to do the same to compete. It's a commodities market. Competition driven with prices set on demand.

a little light reading for the uninformed: http://search.aol.com/aol/imageDetai...re+tetrahedron

and now you have been schooled!
You sounded good up to the cell phone part. That's been proven a hoax many times. There isn't a single documented case of a cell causing a fire at a gas pump.

Riding a motorcycle is dangerous. If you're scared hop in your car.

You may think fueling up while sitting on the bike is extremely dangerous that even the thought of it brings you to tears.
You may get off the bike, fuel up and not even spill a drop then pat yourself on the back as you ride off without full leather and armored gear on, maybe not even a full face helmet or boots on, you may even speed when you get on the highway, who knows?

Everyone takes risks, it just depends on how far you want to go and how tight your panties get while twisted.

Relax, it ain't that damn serious where people are exploding every day from sitting on their bike fueling up. There are many more motorcycle crashes every day that full gear could have helped with.
I ain't wearing full gear all the time though either.

Shell's policy seems reasonable, though I always get off my bike.
