Default Wasn't Expecting That...

Rode bike to work yesterday (Norfolk VA). Working a 12 hour shift. Parked bike on the end spot in parking lot next to grass. Decided to put the cover on it.

Later in the afternoon I noticed a small storm headed our way and thought, no big deal. Half hour later we get 70 mph winds and co-worker sees my bike laying on its side. Crap!

Winds die down, but its still raining like hell, and my co-worker and I run out and put bike back up on jiffy stand. I'll check for damage later when rain stops. Few minutes later wind kicks up again and bike gets blown over. Damn!

This time we waited till most of the storm had passed and we put it back up on the stand. I was surprised that the only thing I could find wrong was the highway peg on the engine guard was pushed out of place and easily fixed. The bike had fallen all the way over and was laying on the engine guard and the saddle bag. The handlebar had hit the grass and absorbed some of the shock both times.

Got off shift, checked bike out thoroughly, started her up and rode home to half of one of my oak trees laying on my neighbors shed I'm just glad this storm wasn't as bad as the ones that are happening in other parts of the country.

20% chance of rain my ****

That is a bum deal! Glad the bike wasn't harmed. Once is bad enough, but twice is enough to make you wanna just go ahead and ride it home, haha.

Wow, I have had my bike parked out several times in some big storms while traveling. I have never had it blown over. That must have been some wind. Have you lowered the bike and not changed the stand so that it stands more upright?

The cover grabbed all the wind. Probably would have stayed up if uncovered.

No, bike is stock ride height. Storm intensified rapidly and it looked like all hell broke loose.

That's crazy that you're bike got blown over. I've had the wind pop my windshield off before.
Last spring I had my bike at work and there was a tornado that went about 2 blocks by my store and mine stayed up. There were heavy winds all night too.

I agree. I put cover on it because the grass mowing crew was supposed to mow nearby. They're famous for picking up rocks etc. One guy had his back window busted out and I had a nice dent in my then new truck from rocks thrown from mowers. Thought I'd be on the safe side and cover it. One guy coming on shift to relieve me said the wind blew his brand new Kawasaki Vulcan over and bent the handlebar. He had his bike covered too.

I was going to take the cover off after righting the bike the first time, but that lightning was hitting too close for comfort. We lost bith electric utility lines coming into the plant and I had already put the generators online before the storm hit.
