I stopped into the dealership today for no good reason, got to looking at a couple new bikes. Softail Deluxe and Fat Boy Lo. I asked the salesman if he had road both, he said yes. I then asked what he owned and he said a "Yamaha." He hesitated like he didn't want to tell me. Personally i don't care what people ride but its interesting that he doesn't have a HD. It would be like walking into work at Chevy driving a Toyota. or being at Pepsi drinking Coke.
I sure it probably because HD won't give anyone a break on pricing. Not even the sales force.
Being a bike sales person is not exactly a high paying job. It's not a job people train for or plan on doing their whole life. It's something people who like bikes do when they are between jobs or otherwise available.
Perhaps its just not in his budget. Might have a family and kids and not his priority to sink that much in a bike. I can live with that
HD's are not cheap. Even used ones cost more than a brand new Yamaha. I dont blame the guy, but I personally do my very best to support American made products any time I can.
Sales people are hired to "sell" not based on how they get to work, or what they drive...shouldn't matter.
If they are trying to sell a brand they personally chose not to own, that doesn't say much about their opinion of the product. Imagine if it was life insurance they were trying to sell to you.
If I owned a stealership, I'd insist that the employees never ride anything other than a HD to my shop. I'd also let the sales staff ride the used bikes to & from work, so they knew what they were selling.
Most HD sales staff can't afford to own a Harley. They get paid ****.
Very true, at most small dealers they don't make a lot. Parts guys even less. A few of the guys at my dealer have or had Harleys because they are older early-retirement people that took the work mostly for something to do.
The salesman I bought my Night Train off used to ride BMW's and told me honestly that he preferred them over Harleys. He said the dealership "pressured" him into rising his 'Glide.....
You bought your Harley from one of those flamboyantly gay guys? I think that would have put me off.
