had to laugh "when you get the look you back off"

Been riding since 1968 and been married for 36 yrs and my OL finally wanted to do a road trip on the 10' RK... which I bought for two up riding for the most part and the fact I never owned a new bike, so it was on my bucket list. We have ridden a few hundred miles together in a day but she wanted to ride from PA to FL this time.

Well I told her to expect it all, rain, cold, hot sun and whatever else mother nature can throw at you along with the general nutjobs driving cages and big trucks.
We hit it all... 40* weather in the mountains of WV, rain for hours in Georgia, thunderstorms with straightline winds, hail, 40 miles of fog and the unseasonal hot weather in FL... ohh and the lovebugs!

I did purchase a detachable tour pack when I bought the bike which makes it more comfortable, took the stock seat off which I really needed more leg room and stopped about every hour to hour and a half to shake a leg.

Never heard anything from her till we stopped in WV and she did say her face was cold.. and once tapped me on the shoulder to pull over during the thunderstorm near Columbia, which was good because the lightning was flying and right after we hit the rest area it started hailing.

3300+ miles round trip, in 10 days and she told me when we arrived home that she really had a good time...

Any touring bike is going to be as heavy as yours. The appearance alone can be intimidating, but once it's moving it's no longer heavy. I have to remember to think ahead on my glide (something I never do on the sporty) as the big bugger can be pure hell if it's parked in a bad spot.

Every change in rides takes a period of ajustment. After a few more miles, the new bike will be as comfortable as any machine you've had in the past. My wife became confident on the back as I got more more comfident.

Best paragraph in the entire thread. My feelings exactly.
