Waving Experiment

Little bit off topic but since there are cyclists in here I'd like to hear an opinion on this.
Driving in the truck or riding the SG (doesnt matter, they still do the same thing) on 2 lane country roads or back roads and I come up on a group riding in the same direction. They seem to love the 2 lane narrow roads for some reason. First pack I get behind goes single file, hugging the right line in which I give them MORE than enough room (kind of a Thanks for moving over gesture).
Next pack I come up on, 3 of them slow out of the pack and immediatly go 3 wide in the lane! Mind you, this is a country road with double yellow "No passing" lines. One of the guys is actually riding that yellow line, WHY? Is it so I can pass by him so close my mirror almost hits him? I don't get it. This has happened probably 10 times this riding season alone. Its almost as if they are begging someone to hit them or retaliate in some way or another.
Sorry for the off topic rant, just wondered if there was a legit reason.

In Montana there's a ride called the Tour of Swan River Valley (out of Missoula). I've ridden it 6 times. Montana is a very bicycle friendly place, but they have ZERO tolerance for bicycle riders who hog the road, and the troopers will give one warning before loading up a violator's bicycle and putting them before a county judge about obstructing traffic (and that's the end of their 'tour'). They simply grab up the bike (which could cost between $1K and $6K) and throw it in the trunk of their crown vic...while handcuffing the perp in the back of the cruiser for a ride to a very irritated Montana county judge). I've witnessed some bicyclists...a distinct minority (some of them out of state attorneys) behave in such a fashion....and it's always a joy seeing ********* receive what they have coming.
I've ridden tens of thousands of miles of 2 lane back country roads on my bicycle over the last 40 years, and never had a bit of problem, BECAUSE...I respected the rights of motorized vehicles. I always want faster vehicles out in front of me....and all that is generally required to do that is to...RIDE SINGLE FILE (which is state law in most of the western US).

to me waving is just being friendly and it
dosent hurt to be nice to people no matter
what they are in or on. I dont automaticly
dislike some one because they dont look like
me or ride what i ride

Cyclists have a fairly high percentage of a-holes, in my experience.
The weekend group riders are one thing, and usually pleasant enough as long as you don't start comparing components. The ones that really **** me off are the ultra-environmentalists that are saving the world by riding their bicycle. It's great that they're doing that... but does it have to make them the most self-righteous people on the roads?
Back to the original topic, I too have waved at motorcycles on my bicycle. After spending a few hours riding the Harley, and then going for a ride on the bike, it takes awhile to adjust. More of a reflex than anything else.

Ahhh.. A-hole cyclist. I use to frequent the Bay area on my ST. Those spandex ****'s are viscous with their attitude towards respecting everyone on the road.
Twice they pissed me off bad enough I was able to scoot by, while they were having a lovely conversation 3 wide, and slap them on the as_.
The feel of spandex at 25 mph is rather nice.....
Oh, I am much more mature now.

I don't wave to every person out there just because they happen to be riding a motorcycle.
I'll probably give them a 'polite nod', but my mommy taught me not to wave to strangers....

solid copy on that one. Hopefully I would have just got a sexual harrasment charge due to using the hand. The ST is narrow enough, i didn't need a tool to accomplish the mission.
I do take your point serious as if one of them had gone down. At the time I felt safe to do it.
