I ride out through the Red Rock Canyon, just west of Las Vegas all the time. Cycling is huge out there, bicycles everywhere. I wave to them all the time, I never get a wave back.

Ironically, cyclists preach that whole "share the road" thing, which one would assume to indicate being friendly when out on the road. Apparently not.

Cyclists are a strange group, my friend races competitively, he tells me all about it. He also rides a Dyna, so he sees it from both sides, it's interesting.

When I'm out on my pedal bike, I'm generally riding too damned hard to wave at anything.

That and I like to keep my head down cuz I don't want anyone i know seeing me in those tight biking shorts.

And I agree with the OP, 100 mile days on a pedal bike will teach you all about comfort.

My kid is a hipster fixie rider and he don't wave at "spandex" riders

J/K the groups get along fairly well for the alley cat races and bike polo. I need to get my *** back on the bike too.
I got an old Chicago Schwinn Continental ('78) and the OL still has her '82 Peugeot.

Sometimes I wave at everybody. Sometimes nobody. Depends on traffic, weather, locale. Where I live some people still wave to everyone. That's why I'm glad to be going home after a trip to the big city. I never apologize for waving to the "wrong group".

Cool

I wave at anyone on my bike. I just got back on a bike after 20 years. So I have a question I'm hoping someone can take the time to answer. The other day a few riders tapped on the top of their helmets as I went in the other direction. I assumed that meant their may be a cop up ahead and a few minutes later I ran across one. I just want to get some confirmation this is what it meant. Thanks for the help.
