Default Hazed chrome????

Hey Gang, my girl decided to help me out with the rubber her boots left on the pipes and she used a lightly abrasive green dish pad. The chrome isnt scratched or scuffed but there is a haze/fog everywhere that she "cleaned". I tried just a chrome polish but didnt help, is there something or someway to get the shine back????

Probably not. I believe that is the method that Russell Mitchell uses on chrome to get that flat finish look. You can try waxing and see what happens. Stay away from abrasive pads unless your planing on doing the rest of the pipes to make it match your new dull spot.

If it was on the heat shields - you could replace those fairly reasonably. If they are stock EBay most likely has 'em.

I am with temp190. I use super fine steel wool on my chrome all of the time, pretty crazy, but works great.

its scratched. you got 3 options:

1. leave it as it is, tell your girl thanks (but don't do that again), and give her a hug.

2. do your whole exhaust that way so that it all matches. one of the softails has an exhaust like that. looks pretty sharp if you ask me. or you could paint it with hi temp black afterwards.

3. look for a new or used part to replace it with.

If you try to polish out the scratches, you will expose the nickel plating. This will show as a yellowish chrome. At this point, the easiest fix is to "brush" the chrome. Use a red Scotch Bright pad and rub the chrome in one direction. This will give a stainless steel like finish.
The safest way to remove any melted on stuff from your pipe, is aluminum foil. Take a piece of heavy foil and crumple it up. With the pipe hot, rub the foil across the surface. Keep re-folding the foil to get a clean edge. Follow up on a cold pipe with chrome polish.
