and i will admit my ignorance, i have not torn into a hd trans. and i hope i never have to. but, can you say that there are not any yellow metals in one? no bronze bushing anywhere? not even 1? i've seen this question asked in response to mobil1's statement, but no one ever answered it.....

can't hold it against mobil1, they didn't specifically state harley tranny, they just said 'not recommended where copper, brass and bronze components are used'

You throw out the word socialist like it is communism or something. Cracks me up. Take a look at the Socialist country to our North and how their economy is ticking along and ask our fellow Canadians on the forum how much they love their country and if social is so bad? i would be surprised if you get many negative comments from them about their country ( although you might get some but you get the same here about the USA)
socialist dictator Hugo Chávez...

i disagree, they didn't specify not to use it in a harley transmission. now if they said, don't use it in a hd tranny because of the yellow metals, then i can see where they didn't do their homework.....

I can confirm that.
Can I get a permit to carry? No
Purchase just requires that I have a valid firearms license for what I'm buying.
Some things in our "socialist" society have their benefits while others are a royal pain in the A@S but other than the short riding season and minority groups that want preferred treatment there isn't much that I'd change

My point is they sell V-twin oil and don't know if it's safe to use the gear oil in the tranny of a harley. **** poor customer service is what you get when they hire some guy off the street to answer the phone. They don't know what their product can be used in. And it's probably in some data base right at their finger tips.

Question: Does Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube Corrode Yellow Metals? Is Mobil 1 Synthetic Gear Lube LS 75W-90 gear oil OK to run in Harley Transmissions? The big buzz on the internet chat rooms is that it corrodes "yellow" metals, such as brass and copper. Is this true? Please answer THIS question.-- Michael Carravetta, Janesville, WI
Answer: Unless the transmission specifically recommends an API GL-5 fluid for your transmission, it should not be used. GL-5 gear oils are designed for gears that require a high level of EP (Extreme Pressure) additives to protect gear teeth under extreme stress. Unfortunately, these same additives can be very aggressive toward “yellow metals “and are generally not recommended where copper, brass and bronze components are used.
