My back for the most part is G2G, but my fiance has issues with a few of the disks in her lower back. Any bump we hit was a Sharp pain 'knife in back' feeling.

What mostly fixed the problem and allows her to ride for hours now is a seat mattress called the Airhawk. It's basically an air mattress for your butt, filled with about 1" of air which greatly reduces the shock and pain in her lower back.

Heard about that also honestly thinking about getting one myself. Bkrider isn't too far from home think they sell em at $144 or so. Have something similar for my lumbar at my desk makes all the difference.

A mustang seat and 12.5 inch Apes on my roadking and I am good to go. And my back gets sore if I sit on a soft lazy-boy. Everybody's different, but I need a firm seat.

Riding bike is OK for the most part since I changed handle bars and seat.

I use Naproxen, and visit my Chiropractor when my back starts to cause problems. I injured it one time when jumping a C-130 (I had the misfortune of faulty static line, and became a tow victim) needless to say it tweaked my back some.

Don't forget about the old reliable kidney belt too! Also known as a weight lifting belt, they will help alleviate the pressure on your lower back by forcing you to sit more upright. There is a reason this feature was built into the traditional "biker" jacket.

Thanks for all the advise. Sounds like the handlebars, the right seat, and ibuprophen are the key to enjoying the ride.

+1, plus my T-bag makes a great backrest.

Backrest!!! Helped me alot. Don't need as much medication if you got one. Recommend you get one that can be adjusted fore and aft.
