I've been thinking of switching to a 3/4 helmet for this very reason but I might give ear plugs a try first.
I'm going on a long hard ride in a couple of months and bought a Modular helmet for it last week. I did it last year without any hearing protection and it took a full 3 days after it was over before I could hear again. Helmet is going to take some getting use to but I think it's a smart move.
I'm sure that earplugs would do just fine but I need some protection from the wind and sun as well, couldn't deal with a full face but I think I will be able to live with the Modular.
To my surprise, after the short time when I was between helmets I went to a 1/2 helmet and found that it was MUCH louder with the helmet. I bought some cheapo foam earplugs but looking for a more permanent set now, possibly with built-in earbuds...
For long rides, I even wear them with a 3/4 helmet. cuts out a lot of the wind noise and can actually hear the radio better. Once your hearings gone....aint coming back
Always. Wish I started many years ago. Tinnitus and a hearing aid and I'm not even 50. Probably looking at a second hearing aid soon so I don't get fired from work.
Standard equipment now! Unfortunately I should have started years ago.
Same here. I never use to wear them, but now I do all the time. I use the foam ones. My job has boxes and boxes of them, so I just grab a handful now and then
