Default Need some advice....

So I purchased an 2005 HD Dyna FXDX (injected) about a month ago. The bike had 4000 miles and the subject I was purchasing it from was the original owner. While checking the bike out, I noticed there was some obvious slight corrosion / pitting and it appeared the bike hadn't been maintained too well. The bike was bone stock. While running the bike, my friend and I noticed a slight "tick" coming from the motor. We checked the oil on the bike and discovered it was very low. My other buddy (several year motorcycle mechanic) said it was likely "ticking" from being low on oil. We checked the dip stick and did not see any metal in the oil. We ran to the store threw some 20w 50 oil in it and ran it. The tick seemed to go away. After negotiating the guy down (quite a bit) on the price I purchased the bike. After the owner gave me the paperwork, I noticed he had purchased the 7 year HD extended warranty, leaving the bike under warranty till next year. I have all the required documentation (1000 mile service receipts) to prove the bike was "maintained" as recommended in the extended warranty pamphlet. We recently tore the bike down and powdercoated several parts and cleaned up the corrosion. The bike turned out great. Obviously, immediately after purchasing the bike, we changed all the fluids out.

I put new thunderheaders on the bike (yesterday) and noticed a slight "popping" under decel. I understand it is suggested to re-map or add a fuel pack to an injected bike if modifications are made. After reading several posts an opinions about adding ONLY pipes and not changing the re-map, I initially decided to just leave the pipes and not re-map. However, after hearing the "popping" I am rethinking my decision.

My question is, if something happens to the motor (based on maybe the previous owner not maintaining the bike well) would I be better off filing a claim with just the thunderheaders on or would it look even worse if I added an intake / re-map. Since I have had the bike, I put about 200 miles on it prior to the tear down and about 50 miles since powdercoat / thunderheaders were added. I know there are several posts about "warranty" claims and I have read many of them. I was just hoping to get advice on my situation.

Thanks for reading, sorry about the long post.

The best thing to do would be to call the warrenty program and ask. They will tell you. But if you look at the fine print I'll bet is says they wont fix it if you have modified it.

I dont think they can cry about the pipes. Everyone does pipes. If you had it re-mapped by the dealer then they can't cry about that either. The intake I'm not sure about. Give 'em a call.

I dont think it matters with the ESP that you did some cosmetic work to the bike. What really matters is if you have engine problems and you have aftermarket parts on it like the exhaust,etc-,the warranty work can be denied by the dealer or the ESP rep.
I think it mainly depends on the dealer and what they report to the ESP rep.

Finish the stage 1 with an air cleaner and tuner and forget about the warranty. Youre not going to need it.

Maybe try some XIED's. Could cure the pop, and if the need ever arose to have the dealer look at it for possible warranty work, you could pull them off.

When I had a warranty the warranty was easily voided by modifications to the motorcycle. Especially modifications to the engine. I think that all warranty programs look for any excuse to deny any claim.

did you replace the exhaust flange gaskets with new when you changed the pipes?
an exhaust leak can cause excessive popping on decel.

U could Just do the pipes till the warrany is up. then do the A/C and F/M then. If U'll feel beter.

Even If U do have a motor issue they'd have to prove the what caused it.

At 4k the bike ain't even broke in yet.

Ride it and quit worrying. just enjoy it.
