Default $400 for a rear tire. OUCH!

Called my local indy for a quote on a new D402 WWW rear tire installed. He comes back with $400 and I almost dropped the phone. WTF?! This would be over the top for a dealer never mind an indy. I can get the tire from Jake Wilson for $140(I assume he gets a tire for at least that...or should) so he wants $260 to install it?

I flipped when HD quoted me a price for my whitewall Dunlop about a year ago. The indy was only a little cheaper so I had HD do it. Since mine was spoked, a tube etc. was also required. I think it came to about $350 or so and I recall the cost for identical tire about the same at both places.

My Indy charges $50 if the he has to remove the wheel from the bike and $25 if you bring the wheel and tire to him off the bike. Those prices are insane!!!!

Here's a link to a local shop in Ottawa where I live. Think that they are about $100 to remove and reinstall a new tire. So at $400 your guy sounds about $100 high

About 6 months ago the dealer I went to wanted almost $600 to replace the tires on my bike. Went to a local indy and had them do it for about $420 soup to nuts. And to this day I can't understand why the dealer closed up a month ago?.,,

Keep shopping. Oddly, the best tire prices around here are at a dealership. Cartersville HD replaced my rear tire for $180, and they did it while I waited.

The local HD dealer just put a new rear tire on my RKC $268 out the door that included a new tube and rim band. They have a special $249.99 for any rear tire. I think it's $ 189.99 for the front not sure I didn't need one.

I bought 2 new Metzeler 880's and 2 new H-D Thunderstar wheels. My Indy picked up my Bike and wheels and tires with his trailer.

He mounted the tires and installed the new bearings in the wheels, swapped the brake rotors and rear pulley, balanced etc. for $162.00.
