I have tire/wheel insurance on my Fat Boy. Picked up a nail two weeks ago, that insurance save me almost 400 bucks...

Went to the Harley shop last week to get a price on replacing the tires on my Heritage . For a WWW front and back tire with tax was 620. , I thought that was high , after reading these posts I know now it is too high .

The dealer I visit has a tire program; that if you buy the tire from them it only costs a dollar to mount and balance. Usually you can get right in and out in a short period of time, unless they are swamped.

I put a new rear tire on my bike about a year ago. I priced it out several ways... HD dealer supplied and installed, it was nearly $460. Same thing from a local indy was about $360. I bought the tire online for $130, with free shipping, pulled the wheel and reinstalled it myself in about an hour, and paid the indy to M&B for $25. Total cost... $155. No brainer, if you ask me. I would never have someone else do it, but I just wanted to know for cost comparison.
Just an FYI... most HD dealers will only install a tire that THEY sell you.

since you're 'right smack dab in the middle of la' i assume you are talking about renegade. they also give you a 15% discount on the tire. yeah, i can buy the tire cheaper online, but for the difference that i'm paying, i'll go ahead and let them do it for a dollar.....

Called my local indy for a quote on a new D402 WWW rear tire installed. He comes back with $400 and I almost dropped the phone. WTF?! This would be over the top for a dealer never mind an indy. I can get the tire from Jake Wilson for $140(I assume he gets a tire for at least that...or should) so he wants $260 to install it?

That's why sooner or later you'll tool up and start buying your tires online and changing them yourself. All you need is a 3' x 3' space in your garage. If you plan on riding for years to come, it don't take a rocket scientist to figure out that it's money in your pocket to be self sufficient. The saved labor cost will pay for your tire most times.

Last summer, I bought ONE 18" PM Gasser front wheel, matching rotor and a new front tire, for my bike, all for about $1900.
Last fall, I bought FOUR new aluminum wheels w/center caps, twenty chrome lug nuts, M&B, and FOUR new Dunlops for my truck... for $1200. WTF?!
