My reason for my choice is that I found out if I didn't want to re-injure my back and flair up my sciatica each time I mounted and dismounted I always get off on the high side. Because I changed to the right side it's greatly helped my issue.
Never burned myself on my pipes.
And logically speaking if the bike is leaning low to the left on the stand stepping off to the right means if there is a slip of the stand the bike drops to the low, leaning left side, and not on you.

Right side usually. Left sometimes. Dismounted over the handle bars once as a young man. Not recommended. Also have found that if the front wheel is turned to the right, a parked harley is easier to stand up.
