Right On and left Off, probably has something to do with the old kick start days, not a horse. IF you ever tried kick starting a bike from the left side then I aint riding with you, and anyone that has ever had a bike that didn't like to start knows after kicking the living $hit out of it to get it going, they aitn walking all of the way around the bike to mount it from the left side.

My Police Motor Instructor told me that the reason for getting on and off from the right side is because if the bike falls due to kickstand failure, the bike will fall away from you, and not on you.
It has it's benefits. How embarassing would it be if you were in uniform and had to ask someone to help get the bike off of you? Not good for the tough guy image.

Always both sides, depending on my knees, truck opens on the right and do not want to walk around the bike. Also from the old days of kicking the bike over and its good to use both sides for stretching the legs.

[quote=Jd Swiper;8316565]I pulled up to the local watering hole tonight to and an older guy standing outside asked me if I knew what I was doing? I asked what he meant and he said your always suppose to get on and off on the kickstand side. I haven't got my MC license yet but am self taught, 3rd bike now 10 years of riding. The FLC is just more comfortable getting on and off on the right side for me. BTW, signing up for mc class Monday! Is this true?? What about you??
As I write this there are 26 replies. There are 2 sides to a bike --- a right side, and a left side --- unless you get on like Roy Rogers did!
