can any lawyers on here chime in with an opinion

I see a number of posters in this thread have pointed this out. I am not sure if this is the case where the crackdown is taking place.
As far as in the U.S. yes that is the popular belief. One branch of the government has indeed ruled that driving on public is not a right but a privilege. There was no real outcry when the government decided this to be the case.
Will there be an outcry the next time the government decides that something the citizens do is not a right? Is walking down the street a privilege? What will be the next right to be downgraded to privilege status?

This is one of those things that can be argued for ever. I'm not
well versed in absolute law, so anything I would say is questionable.
I would ask you this, do you disapprove of them making users of
the road follow the law? We have checkpoints over here (here
being Buffalo) and many have claimed there illegal, to no avail. But.
last May, we had over eleven fatalities for bike riders and their
passengers, most had no license, no insurance, and most DWI.
No one wants that kind of driver-rider amongst us. Do you want
them on the road your father, mother, daughter, son or even you
to have to face. The other part of the checks is for things
such as loud pipes, bald tires, no inspection, registration and such,
again, whats wrong with that. If you and I ride legal, why not everyone?
I've paid for speeding and learned to either ride within or pay to play.

now I don't know about you but if I'm minding my own business, obeying the laws while on a nice mellow putt and have some cops pull me over and crawl up my *** with a microscope I have a problem with that.
If you're ok with them treating you like that well that's all fine and good for you.....but I resent being treated like that and I don't deserve to be treated like that...and they have no business pulling over and jacking up innocent people....That is in violation of our charter of rights and freedoms...what they are doing is against the law.

Dino........live in Ladysmith, and have a lawyer friend in Nanaimo who is also a long time rider. Will forward your post to him.....good heads up.
Nanaimo had three bike officers...may be more now, but they were for the most part, very poor riders!
Was fun to follow them when they were training.....hope they didn't have handlebar mounted tazers......

You probably know as well as I do that at least 20% of riders
don't even have a bike license. The idiots that stand out and draw attention to themselves are the folks they're going after. Those and the bikes that have pipes so loud you hear them 2 blocks away. I have no problem with this enforcement and I do not feel like my rights are being trampled on at all. They look for the sport guys and loud bikes. Like you said, if you play, then you should pay. I do however agree that operating a motor vehicle being a privilege and not a right, to be bull ****. It's a right until you prove you don't deserve it.

100 KPH = 62 MPH
If your doing 40 over...
140 KPH = 87 MPH
A little shy of triple digits.

I can see through the thin vail of innocence you claim. Your sig
pic shows illegal exhausts and possible apes that are above the
limit, (at least here in NY) plus whatever else may not be right.
So you have reason for not wanting to be stopped. I on the other
hand think I'm legal, so a two minute stop is nothing, if they
even bother stopping me. I used to ride in Canada a lot, was
never hassled, not that I didn't deserve it as I still stretch my
luck with speed limits at times. I quit going to Canada when
the hassle with the peace bridge and backups got the best of
me. If your truly out for a mellow ride, obeying the law and
minding your business like you say, I doubt they'll bother you.

...and also, special thanks to all the whiny bitches that look for any opportunity to throw motorcyclists under the bus.

There's a difference between
a.) being legal
and
b.) acting as if you think your feces have no odor.
