I had a evo withj over 50 k , know a guy that had a evo with over 120k we went to the dyno and his actually had more hp than mine stock! I guess maintence , the type of air filter has a lot to do with it.

I just turned over 85K on my 99 FLSTC. I change the oil every 3K and all fluids every 6K, other than that and cleaning the air filter I haven't done anything else mechanically to it. It is still running strong!

Well the "average" Harley will just sit in a garage and not get 10,000 miles in 15 years. So any bike with more than 40k is already above-average, considering the 10%-20% or so that expect to have been totaled by year 10.

The older ones need valve adjustments
Now you've got me even more curious.... In all my reading of Harley history (I think I own every coffee table book ever written), it was my understanding that Harley engines as far back as the knuckleheads had hydraulic valves lifters. Are there still valve adjustments that would be necessary (aside from after an engine rebuild) for these older engines?
My 51 Panhead had solid lifters. It required fairly regular pushrod adjustment, usually when it started making noise. Got to where I could do all 4 pushrods in about 15 minutes.

I'm hoping it's a lot more than the 63,000 I've got on my 80' Evo....1987 FLHTC

Well here's my .02

I've got 119,00 on '91 FLSTC, my buddy has 140,000 on is '94 Ultra, our other friend has 215,000 on his '93 FXR. We all maintenance regularly. All have had top-end jobs. We all wound up doing them around 80K +- 10-20k. Changed our lifters every 40K. All have new cams and cam bearings including cover bushings. When top end was down we honed and threw in a new set of rings. All bikes are running stock bottom-ends. It's all in the maintenance. Preventative maintenance too (lifters). Don't wait for something to break before you get in there. Pop the top and check it out.

John
