AVERAGE MILES OUT OF A HARLEY ENGINE

RE: AVERAGE MILES OUT OF A HARLEY ENGINE
I haven't kept a bike long enough to really participate with adequate personal experience, but I've heard of many bikes going 100K +.
Also, I don't know why the dealers in your area would run from the question. I've asked this at a couple dealers near me and the response has always been something along the lines of, 'at least a hundred thousand.'

I would suspect a bone stock, properly maintained Harley with a modern twin cam engine will run a LONG time without needing a rebuild...

RE: AVERAGE MILES OUT OF A HARLEY ENGINE
I've know of several EVOs going into the 130s before bottom end work was necessary. Only know of one person that has a TC88 with over 100K but they've made so many changes to the motor it's the MoCo equivalent to Joan Rivers. The MoCo knows what the design limits are, but apparently they don't see it as a "strength" or they'd talk about it more... it's also more likely they're avoiding the class action lawsuits if they don't live up to some advertised/promoted/average number.
I expect to get at least 100k out of each HD I currently own - hopefully I'll live long enough to ride 'em each that far (30K on the 03 and 2.2K on the 07).

So many bikes. So little time. I'll never keep one long enough to find out. I guess as much as I always enjoy my current bike I'm always thinking about the next one.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

131k on my 95 Ultra with nothing but routine maintnenace Dino oil every 2500, primary and tranny every 5k. Bike still runs strong, no smoke.. Road it to DC for rolling thunder last year and will be there next year too. One of my riding buddies calls my bike new. His has 175k on a 97 RK and he follows the same maintenance as I do. He uses Castrol High Mileage car oil. I use HD oil. I'm planning on getting a new bike in the summer of 09 and turning mine into a trike for the wife.
I'm sure others may have higher mileage. IMHO, if routine maintnenace is done, most any quality engine can go over 100k miles easily

'72 XLCH - averaged about 40k miles between overhauls until I stroked it to 77 inches, then about 20 - 25k miles.
'78 FLH - 125k miles before top end job, then complete o'haul @ 200k miles.
'87 FLST Evo - Will hit 130k miles on Thursday, weather permitting. Replaced base gaskets.
Valve adjustments - Ironhead Sportsters had solid lifters. Most of us Shovel guys replaced the hydraulics with solids when doing performance mods, or when the first hydraulic went bad. You could get a set of solid adapters and 4 new pushrods for the price of one hydraulic unit.
