Great area to ride, and lots of great musicians live there. Doc Watson, The Krugers, Tut Taylor to name a few. Wayne Henderson lives just north of there. That's one of my favorite parts of this country. Absolutely beautiful.
Wayne is a family friend and unbelievable guitar player. His brother Max is a good guy as well.

I expect it would take between 5 and 6 hours depending on traffic and how many stops you make. If you get stationed in Lejeune a great ride is Hwy 12 up the Outer Banks. I did that ride a few years ago and posted some pics here.
Thanks for the pic's. Made me realize how much I miss NC. I lived in Taylorsville for 7 years. Some of the best people I've ever met were in the foothills. The best ribs I ever ate were at Bennetts Steak House in Hickory!
