Default Daytona Bike Week Date Change for 2012 vs Spring Break

Well, anyone want to venture a guess what the combination will look like next year. Due to NASCAR shifting the 500 1 week, Bike Week gets pushed a week so it will now merge with the first week of Spring Break, starting on the 9th of March. Has this ever happened before. Besides the competition for rooms (get yours early), and being more crowded, it should be a "interesting" with the youth injection. I haven't been down in a while, but just may go next year out of curiosity.

It's overlapping before, in fact it was in 2011. With spring break being so long with various regions and schools taking it at different times it's going to become the norm versus the exception. It was really a lot of fun this year watching the two groups intermingled. Most of the bikers hang at the "biker"places while most the breakers hang at the beach or theme parks anyway. It shouldn't be a problem.

Is there really a competition for rooms in Daytona?

I made reservations the week before we left and didn't have an issue. Then when we got there we changed the room without a hassle.

We were able to get a room on the fly on the way down.

I guess I look at it this way, Spring Break=More *****.

Well here's what I think. With the price of gas probably hovering around $5.50 to $6.50 a gallon next year should help thin the crowds a little and possibly lower room rates. We stayed in St. Augustine Beach this year as we have for the last 8 and our rooms this year were $15.00 a night cheaper and got the same rate for the entire 8 day stay.

That's one of the reasons they said the spring break crowd was bigger than usual this year. The other, since Mexico isn't so safe Mom and dad wouldn't let little Suzie and Johnny go there so they came to Florida instead.

About 11 years ago we took my then very young children to Disney. They had never seen the ocean before and we wanted to get them the opportunity to swim in the ocean. We asked the hotel staff about the best way to get from Disney to the Daytona area. They all said NO!! It is bike week. the traffic will be terrible and you will never get to the beach. They sent us to Clearwater on the Gulf side. Well it was spring break there. Traffic was still pretty tough and the beaches were just packed. So the answer to your question is YES. They do occasionally fall on the same week.
