Default Any way to beat Harley's $%&# prices???

Someone put a snazzy new speedo/tach in their Softail. Jeez, I thought, I'd like one too. So I checked it out on the Harley Web Site and it's like $500!!! For something not more complicated than a Casio watch. (Wonder if it is made in the USA???)

Is that it? I have to pay half a grand for that? Is there anyplace that sells at a discount and I don't mean 10 percent which pretty much covers the sales tax in California.

Just curious...

Zanotti's will give you about 20% discount, no tax, but shipping.

Twenty to thirty percent off is probably the best your going to do with dealers. Ebay and swap meets are your next bet but buyer beware. I can tell you for a fact that even though they say that most of that stuff is plug and play it ain't. When I changed out my Heritage and Wideglide to speedo/tach combos it was plug and play while hunting to find wires in the harness that are color coded but not used.

To answer your questions.
1. You can beat their prices by not buying it.
2. Not made in U.S.A. (I'm guessing).

Melted some of a cleaning rag on one of the wifes heat shields. Got a majority of it off but was going to replace it. This heat shield is the one that comes off the rear cylinder and is about 10 inches long. I figure dealership prices should be $70-80. WRONG...$180. Had parts guy double check price. He couldnt believe the price either and told me my best bet would be to go on ebay or craigslist and pick one up. After hearing the price I figured her heat shield didnt look to bad after all.

That's what you get for cleaning. The saying goes - Born to Ride .. not Born to Polish!

Harley introduced 3 new speedo / tach combination units this year that are all under $300 and are plug 'n play. You can also try a Dakota Digital, but they are in the $400 range.
