To each his/her own. In the old days a chopper used to mean something. Something besides how much money you can afford to spend to have someone else build your bike.
Why is it that you don't see Easy Rider/Capt. America-style choppers these days? It seems like all that's out there are Jesse James/West Coast-style choppers & bobbers.
Is it because the old-school/Easy Rider choppers are that uncomfortable?
Some are nice to look at but I'm glad I'm not doing the polishing. Even Peter Fonda said that riding the Captain was a bone jarring experience. I think I prefer a more confortable ride. And I prefer a more reliable ride.
Choppers? It's taking a bike and reshaping it into a visually appealing (questionable) piece of art, that isn't nearly as functional as it was before. I just saw one at my local convenience store and it was a super stretched, super chromed thing like you see on the show, and it was all the guy could do to get it turned into the gas pumps and park it. I don't mean a tasteful rake like on the Wide Glide either.
I'm not a fan of them either, but I've seen a guy take one through the complete MSF ERC course, S turns and all. Depends on the rider, I guess.
