I really don't get the whole chopper thing. I get Bobbers. I get customization and mods. I get restoring old bikes. I love motorcycles.

Choppers? It's taking a bike and reshaping it into a visually appealing (questionable) piece of art, that isn't nearly as functional as it was before. I just saw one at my local convenience store and it was a super stretched, super chromed thing like you see on the show, and it was all the guy could do to get it turned into the gas pumps and park it. I don't mean a tasteful rake like on the Wide Glide either.

I can see stretching the frame on a drag bike, but beyond that I don't understand why someone would bother. Can someone help me out?
I don't get what a Bobber is? I had a Paughco S131 10 deg out rigid framed 113" evo motored(after the original shovel/pan blew big!!!!!) kick only, 5 in a 4, no batt, snap mag, bike that made the cover of In The Wind in '94 and I thought it was a chopper, maybe it's a bobber, wtf do I know!

to respect those who started the customization of "chopping" in the 50's & 60's I wouldn't call those "choppers"!

i like functional bikes, while i do appreciate the work that goes int oan "art" bike when i look at a bike for myself its gotta meet certain criteria. that being: Quick, manouverable, be able to put on long miles some of them 2-up, can do some non paved roads without worrying about multi thousand dollar paint/chrome damage and a few other things. so the fad "Choppers" arnt something i would spend that kinda coin on maybe if i was a sunday rider solely but im not probebly never will be

Your damn right! If anyone ever saw a F&L Hog Shop "Chopper" built by Louie Falcigno , they'd know what I call a chopper should look like!

Had to be there in the beginning I guess to have a feel for where choppers and the love affair for them came from . I will agree the crap I've seen on the road the last 10 + yrs they call choppers now is almost cartoonish and I can't see be very ridable . I'm the other way a bobber is just a striped down stock bike with painted parts instead of bling . Different tastes , different bike for different people that what makes it all go round .

Choppers rule..... Not the low and long... I like long and tall, I want stretch in the down tubes and backbone.... when I'm sittin in the saddle I just want to see over the handlebar clamps... BIG inch motor... 250 rear tire.. about 9 ft of motorcycle..

It'll be a few years of collecting parts but I'll get one put together....

Anyone remember the bikes Pat Kennedy used to build... EFFIN AWESOME!!!!
