"Most of these "accidents" you hear about ar a result of sheer recklessness. "
My accident was sheer recklessness... well really jackassedness. Luckily I only hurt myself.
I agree. People should mind their own business. Although I don't mind "be careful"s especially from friends.

Good thread!!!
I work in an underground mine about 4 miles from the surface......needless to say, I don't hear it a lot from work, most of the guys that work for me ride also.
My wife rides her own 883 and my kids (13 and 7) have their own dirtbikes.

Life's too short as it is. I just nod or smile, and crank it up, and Im gone. If it's another rider, I know they mean it,and I tell them the same.
When I was a young man, and my wife and I went riding a lot, (she had her own bike),my mother said,"well, I hope you've made arrangements my grandson",who was about 5 or 6, and I said, I did Mom, I got him a helmet too!...She didn't see the humor in it.....don't know why

I just tell them: "Yea, motorcycles are dangerous!" "Why do ya think I ride one?" After several seconds of a blank stare they usually give up and move on.

I just tell them........"none of us will be spared"......(It's a quote from a friend of mine who is a surgeon).......that usually does it. If they keep going I'll ask them how they wish to die and what do they think is the best way for me to die or get killed? That shuts em all up..

When that warning comes from friends, family, co-workers, or other riders, I always say "Thank you.....I WILL be careful", and I truly appreciate their concern.
When it comes from busy-bodies, that are simply trying to infer that I'm an idiot for riding a bike, I generally tell them something along the lines of "I have to be......nearly everbody driving a car is a dumba$$".

I have plenty of Biker friends who say to "Be Careful out there" We all know how dangerous it is. I know people care when they say it. I tell non riders that if I die riding it's a hell of a lot better way to go than dying sick in bed.
