Everybody dies, but not everyone lives.
That's usually all I have to say.

Good vent Dude. Now take a deep breath, relax, and forget them! Smile back, say something like "gee that's a shame" and ride on. No one has to tell us that riding a motorcycle has some enherant risks. Dave

The people who genuinely mean it, I thank. The ones who just like to tell horror stories do get to me.
One of my friends recently said he was thinking of selling his bikes because someone he knows got seriously injured on a bike. I replied that my neighbor wasn't doing anything and he is dying of ALS.
I really like that line.

I hear it also, and I just reply... "You be careful too, You heard about that car accident last nite where the guy/girl was killed!".
That usually shuts them up.
BTW, they're usually the ones driving their cages and changes lanes into one I'm already in!?!

I lost my brother while he was riding. I Stepped off of mine for 25 years, for it really hurt Mom and Dad. Dad passed some 10 years back, I continued to putt on all fours. My daughter mentioned to me she wanted me to come and ride with them. I told her it hurt Mom too much. Well Mom heard that, her reply was, "Owen if you want to ride, I do not mind." Guys it was the greatest feeling to hear that from Mom. Built a bike (rigid, Honda chopper like Alan had once and rode it a few years, the OL rode some on it. I could hear her at every bump and dip. It was beating us up. I went and sign the papers and suprised her with an Ultra Classic. We ride together weekly now. When the 3 most important women in your life support you in doing what your heart desires. You are a KING.
Folks means well in saying be safe. Just don't get me started, I KNOW the Danger.

I respond with "it's the people behind the wheel that's the dangerous ones"
If it wasn't for cars the majority of bike accidents wouldn't happen

BTW I usually answer them that the number of people that die each year from motorcycle accidents are lower then those killed driving cars. That usually shuts them up for a awhile while they try to figure out that is by numbers and not by capital.

When I hear it from a fellow rider it is usually followed by information on road, weather, and traffic conditions. And I do appreciate it.
From anyone else, particularly the ones afraid of life, I reply, "That takes all the fun out of it."
