Default Need input into Cam choice

I'm doing a 103" in a "07 FLHX and wanna kinda keep it mild, stock heads. Was considering 255,actually ordered them yesterday, cams until I seen posts regarding high CCp's with this cam.

I don't have a problem putting in comp releases as I'll have the heads off obviously. Are the stock 07 heads able to put ACR's in them?, do they plug right in with the harness?.

I also am looking at the 211's, I have these in a '99 FLHR 95"er and love them.

I would really appreciate any input towards any SE cams you'se guys could provide.

Thanks in advance...Scott

I would give Jamie down at Fuelmoto a call! He's awesome and has a great deal of knowledge about cams and fuel injection. www.fuelmotousa.com

What is the static compression ratio of the pistons you are planning to use with the stock heads? If it is 10:1 then you probably don't need the compression releases. You can have them installed, but you don't need to. If your getting to 10.5:1 then you might consider it, although my '09 107 is 10.6:1 and has 195psi ccp and starts easily w/o using the compression releases, but I do have them. It does take some strain off the starter. The 255's closing at 25 degrees abdc will bump your ccp considerably. If you were staying with the stock 9.2:1 compression it wouldn't be a problem. Something you might consider if you're not just bound to SE cams would be either the Wood TW-555 or the T-Man TR-555 cams. Both of these close the intake at 41 degress abdc. T-Man is making a new 555 lift cam called the Torqster that closes at 37 degrees abdc. Head-Quarters Firebrand cam is 575 lift in. 530 lift ex. It closes at 40 degrees abdc and the exhaust has 256 duration which is suppose to promote engine cooling. If you go to Bigboyz Head Porting website they have a calculator that you can plug your numbers into and it will give you your dynamic compression and your ccp with different cams. Good Luck!

I went with the 255's for my build for the same reason. Wanted to keep it mild. Made a big difference and I don't think I lost much reliability. I also got the auto decompression while I was at it. Heard it can be hard on starters without it.

Forgot to mention I'm using the flat top forged pistons which should bump up the comp to around 10:1.

Kinda wanna stay with the SE stuff as I have had quite good luck with the 1's I have installed, that and my local dealer just me a good deal on any HD only parts.

Thanks...Scott

Understood. But try not to limit your options when it comes to cams, or any other work you decide to do. Some good suggestions posted about different manufacturers and cam grinds. The BigBoyz Twin Cam Compression/Displacement Calculator is a good tool to use when deciding future upgrades.
Cams from Headquarters, Andrews, Cycle Rama, Woods, Redshift, among others are all viable alternatives when it comes to what you're looking for, and with lowered adjusted compression ratio's & cold cranking compression.
Good luck either way you go.

The jump from the 255 to the 211 is a big one, the 204 makes more sense, but you have stated an increase in compression and you have used the 211's in the past and like them so maybe you will be fine with the 211's. Your dealer should be able to drill your heads for the ACR's and yes they plug into your wiring harness using a pigtail(70623-06) that you need to get from the dealer. Keep in mind the ACR's will need to be enabled thru your ECM, I enabled mine when using my SEPST to tune.
