"How many cc is your Harley" they will ask and " For $X,XXX I couldn't pass it up" and " I would've paid twice that for a comparable Harley". There have been several acquaintenances of mine, all with money, who have done this. Is it as simple as them viewing these bikes as comparable (even better) than the HD? I'm happy for them in the sense that they can now enjoy riding just as we all do, but the bottom line is I always feel like they missed something. Does anyone know what am trying to say? And I always get the impression that they feel like they got "more bang for their buck". I want to say, but never do, "but it's a Honda, etc." I'm certain they wouldn't get that.

Sorry about the above post

Ha, I've been doing that a lot lately for my Road Glide. Any excuse to get out there and tinker. Still freezing here in Michigan.

I remember when owning a Harley meant a long wait if you ordered it new and a long search if you where looking for a used one . Now , they pump them out like Honda and Kawasaki does and will finance anyone regardless of income or credit and every want a be dick head is riding around on a brand new one . The mystique that Harley once had is all but gone today and I find that sad . I get the feeling , the connection of owning a Harley and I'll never ride anything else now that I have a Harley though .

Should there be only a select few members of some Harley club? I dont give a rats *** if every want a be d!ck head does own a Harley. I like mine, I like riding them, hell I like looking at them when there are 50 parked on the street outside the local coffee house.

Don't get me wrong, I don't feel the need to check out all the bikes when its Goldwing night, so yeah its a HD thing for me. But really, the more the better.

My step brother is always telling me why his Honda is a better bike than my Ultra. I listen politely then say that is OK, I will spend my cash as I see fit and let him do the same. Then I see if he wants to go out riding, and he always has an excuse. I put more miles on last year than he has in the last 3. He must love his Honda, because he sure spends a lot of time looking at it.

All my life I rode Jap bikes.Since I was 15 yrs old,40 years ago.I was always "anti-Harley",having grown up during the AMF years. To me they just werent fast enough.I got my first H-D last year,by accident.A good friend decided to sell his '97 FXD with low miles because he has had numerous surgeries over the years and blew his knee out once again and decided he didnt want the bike to sit another season. He offered it to me at a stupid price and I couldnt say no.I dont know if its just that I am older now or what, but I am kind of kicking myself for not seeing how good riding a Harley can really be.There are still times I want to be on a Ducati, but overall I love this bike and wouldnt give it up for anything.

They'll be jealous while everybody is checking out your ride instead of theirs. They just don't understand and probably never will or now that they are out and about with you, maybe they will. Just remain calm and don't raise to their ego and laugh when people give them the WTF look at a biker bar when they say they're going to go hop on their honda. Nothing against their bikes, just the egos....lol!!

I did that in 06 looked at Harley and bought my M109R Suzuki. I knew I would endup on a Harley eventually and I did. The price , Ins cost and yes engine size has impact on manys potential owners purchase. I realize for many the choice was only brand bike from the beginning for others its a journey of sorts. I enjoyed my journey and like where I have landed.
