I think it is the ignition switch. There is nothing when I turn the switch to run. No dash lights, no headlight, nothing. When I turn it to accessory, I at least get the speedo back light, making me think it is the ignition switch. Just for ***** and giggles, I think I will also change out the battery cables, just to be on the safe side. I was gonna pull the derby and take a whiff, but didn't do it today.

Seems like there was a service bulletin somewhere about this.

My Springer acted similarly last summer. No warning however. It was running when I put it in the garage, and the next morning zip. Turned out to be the ignition switch. I swapped it with an ebay special when I saw how much HD wanted for a new one.

good luck.

Since I live about 80 miles from the nearest dealer, I just ordered one from Dennis Kirk for around $30. Probably will be here by Friday, and it will be Saturday before I would have a chance to go to dealer to get one. Hopefully, that will fix it. I was afraid it was the stator, but since the battery was fully charged in less than an hour using a tender, I'm fairly certain it isn't the stator. When I get off work tomorrow, I will pull the inspection cover and take a whiff just to be sure.

You ordered a new battery from J&P and it's supposesed to be here tomorrow? Are you psychic? Did you know you needed a battery? You're going to change the cables just to be sure. And you've got an ignition switch ordered? And you're going to take a whiff of what after pulling the derby cover? Good thing you've got a friend and a neighbor with a trailer. Thanks for the sunday funnies. And good thing you've got a heritage in case of problems.

Arrow changed my mind

Trying to help you solve your problem-I was agreeing with the others suggesting battery and/or cable probs. Until you mentioned the new ignition switch. The same symptoms & sounds happened when my 95 FatBoy fried its ignition switch. I had forgotten about that. My money is now on your bad ignition switch. Make sure you buy your buddy with the trailer a cold one or two for his help. We all need friends like that sometime.

That's weird. Just saying...
Nah, they aren't closed. Our local dealer is open both Saturday and Sunday but service is just open Saturday.
